Theo offers writing coaching services to both groups and individuals.  She holds writing retreats for memoir writers several times annually and meets with individuals working on fiction and nonfiction projects on a regular basis. She works with individuals in the Seattle area and by phone for long distance consultations.

Writers interested in working with Theo should contact her via email to set up an initial consultation.

"Theo is a great teacher and has helped my work tremendously. Theo understands the unique genre of memoir and how it is similar in structure, plot and character development as a novel, yet has the added complexity of exploring the writer's memory, emotions and insights.

As a coach, she has a great balance of recognizing my strengths and helping me improve my work without being overly critical or demoralizing. She treats her students work with the same seriousness she treats her own.  I feel like she is personally invested in my work and my success as a writer."

"Inspiring, insightful, and very knowledgable about crafting a story--that's Theo. I can't imagine working on a book project without her coaching."

“My writing experiences with Theo began with her teaching a memoir class. It was a class in which, by the third term, her role evolved into that of a writing coach for all of us. Since then I engaged Theo as my writing coach because she approaches it as a mentor. She combines those key mentor qualities of empathy and expertise, with a willingness to use her own experiences as teaching moments. She doesn’t hesitate to tell me what to do, when appropriate, but more often she leads me to discover how to proceed and improve my writing and my story. Her self-effacing humor always surfaces at the perfect time to assist with learning as well as defuse those difficult moments all of us experience when learning about and writing memoirs. Writing with Theo continues to be one of the best learning experiences in my fifty-eight years.”

“Theo has been my writing coach for a couple of years.  As a published cookbook author, I have valued her thoughtful insights and intuition about my memoir.  Mind you, she has also helped me craft my new literary cookbook proposal.
Theo has a gift; I hope you get a chance to receive it.”

“Thank you, Theo, for focusing my editing efforts and keeping track of the forest-level picture while I climbed around in the branches of the trees..”
